History and time schedule

History:

  • 1990: First attempt to obtain funding for an accelerator or light source in Spain.
  • 1994: Staff is hired to prepare the conceptual design report of a 2.5 GeV light source.
  • 1997: Conceptual design report is finished.
  • 2002: Approval of the project by the Spanish and the Catalan Governments.
  • 2003: Appointement of the General Director (Joan Bordas)
  • 2003: Announcement of the positions for the heads of the 5 divisions.
  • 2003: 1st user meeting at Menorca.
  • 2004: 2nd user meeting in Malaga.
  • 2004: Redesign of the storage ring.
  • 2004: Geotechnical studies on the site.
  • 2005: Site conditioning.
  • 2006: Start building construction.
  • 2007: First electron pulses for ALBA.
  • 2008: Linac installation.
  • 2008: First electron beam at the Linac exit.
  • 2009: Booster and Storage ring installation.
  • 2009: 80 kW in Dampy Cavity.
  • 2010: First operational test of the Booster.
  • 2010: Inauguration.
  • March 2011: Electron beam in the Storage Ring.

Time schedule:

  • Mid 2011: Insertion devices.
