1990: First attempt to obtain funding for an accelerator or light source in Spain.
1994: Staff is hired to prepare the conceptual design report of a 2.5 GeV light source.
1997: Conceptual design report is finished.
2002: Approval of the project by the Spanish and the Catalan Governments.

2003: Announcement of the positions for the heads of the 5 divisions.
2003: 1st user meeting at Menorca.

2004: Redesign of the storage ring.
2004: Geotechnical studies on the site.
2005: Site conditioning.
2006: Start building construction.
2007: First electron pulses for ALBA.
2008: Linac installation.
2008: First electron beam at the Linac exit.
2009: Booster and Storage ring installation.
2009: 80 kW in Dampy Cavity.
2010: First operational test of the Booster.

March 2011: Electron beam in the Storage Ring.
