Core Level Absorption & Emission Spectroscopies (CLÆSS) Beamline

 CLÆSS logo

This beamline was initially named 'XAS' (X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy). The name was changed in May 2009.

The CLÆSS (pronounced [kla:s]) beamline will provide a simultaneous and unified access to two complementary techniques: absorption and emission spectroscopies. The energy range is 2.4 – 65 keV. At a later stage, x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) technique with quarter-wave plates will be added.

The sample infrastructure will include cryostats and vacuum chambers for low-temperature/low-energy measurements; gas lines, exhausts, poison gas sensors and ample space for in-situ chemical/catalytical research. A sample preparation room in close proximity to the beamline (glove box, pellet press, fume cupboards, analytical balance etc.) is planned.
