Double Crystal Monochromator
Installation of the Double Crystal Monochromator, DCM, June 2009
In June 2009 the monochromator system, a cryo-cooled double crystal monochromator, equipped with Si(111) crystals was installed. The system was supplied by Bruker Advanced Supercon BASC formerly ACCEL. Is has been mechanically characterized and shown to meet specifications. In-house commissioning has also demonstrated that the vacuum level is good. Finally, the cryogenic cooling circuit has been tested together with the monochromator in order to see if a) specific pump speeds of the cryo-cooler may excite resonance frequencies in the mechanical structure of the crystal assembly itself; b) the water-cooled in-vacuum motors function during circulation of the liquid nitrogen, LN2, and finally; c) what combination of the pump speed and the degree of bypass in the LN2 will guaranteed stable conditions in the crystal assembly. On all accounts, these tests have been successful and no real problems are forseen.
