Querida  Ma Jose ,

En attachement te envio una carta y una hoja excel que explica el proceso de las evaluaciones de las propuestas enviadas al SAC.

Ademas te incluyo unos comentarios que  G. Gruebel (mayusculas)  and B. Dobson (minusculas)  me mandaron  :

1 The basic thrust of the proposal is rather unclear. In the SAC folder the beam line is called Diffraction nanostructures, the proposal is entitled "High Resolution and Micro-focus Diffraction Beamline" and the first page has a  heading "...surface diffraction beam line...".

The proposal includes conventional diffraction and coherent diffraction and direct coherent imaging all of which have somewhat different requirements in terms of instrumentation, wavelength and in particular detectors. These varying requirements are not strongly reflected in the description of the proposed beam line.

I WOULD ADD THAT THE BEBEFIT OR LOSS OF THE COHERENCE ASPECT SHOULD BE ADRESSED.

CONCERNING COHERENT IMAGING THERE NEEDS TO BE A CASE MADE (WITH NUMBERS). A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE IS NOT SUFFICIENT.

2 The proposal is suggesting a very wide range of experimental techniques including harsh environments, UHV surface diffraction, liquid surface diffraction, electrochemistry etc. It is not clear which of equipment for these techniques is included in the proposal. If all were included this will be an immensely expensive beam line.

3 The proposal suggests that two hutches will be provided: one for the diffractometer and one for the UHV surface diffraction. There is no discussion of the layout of these hutches, how the beam will be switched from one to the other or how the beam time will be scheduled to keep the two expensive instruments fully occupied.

AN EVALUATION OF THE BEAMLINE IN VIEW OF THE EUROPEAN CONTEXT IS NECESSARY. WHAT CAPABILITY EXITS ELSEEWHERE. IN WHAT AREAS IS THE BEAMLINE SUPPOSED TO LEAD.

4 Whilst the beam line design is still preliminary, there is no costing presented.

In particular, the costs of the diffractometer and the UHV system could be reasonably easily costed.”

Salvador
