Her Majesty the Queen Letizia has agreed to become the president of the Spanish Honorary Committee of the International Year of Light and light-based Technologies. According to professor María Josefa Yzuel, president of the Spanish Committee of the International Year of Light, this is an "exampe of the strong commitment of her Majesty the Queen in promoting the Spanish science and technology. Her presidency is great news for the sector and it will help us spreading the activities to the whole of the Spanish society".

The International Year of Light (IYL2015) is a world-wide initiative endorsed by the United Nations at the end of 2013 with the aim of communicating to society as a whole the importance of light and light-based technologies in today's world, in such important areas as energy, health, communication, education and agriculture.
