Cerdanyola del Vallès, 23rd February 2021. The magnitude of the grand challenges for modern science and engineering requires new ways of coordinating intellectual leadership and scientific resources like characterization, computation, and growth capabilities.  Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) in collaboration with ALBA Synchrotron has recognized this need, creating the IBERIAN scientific project, a collaboration opportunity for Portuguese and Spanish researchers around four research areas, using synchrotron tools to solve problems, our society is facing.

The proposed projects were reviewed by a team of international experts and four of the projects were selected. The abstracts of these projects, as well as the teams involved and the description of the four scientific areas are published here. The calls for the Post-doctoral positions associated with these projects will open very soon; keep tuned if you are interested in these exciting research opportunities offering a keystone for your career building.

We want to emphasize that the IBERIAN scientific project is one vehicle, which was created by FCT and ALBA to foster the use of synchrotron tools by the Portuguese research community and support the collaboration between Portuguese and Spanish researchers. This project is also flanked with other supporting measures like the financial support of Portuguese users at ALBA and specific aids for new Portuguese user communities. In the spirit of the FCT-ALBA agreement we will promote scientific collaboration between the two countries, encourage scientific and technical exchange, develop common projects and facilitate user access.
