Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona), December 2, 2023. The ALBA Synchrotron Director reports that in the early morning of December 2, 2023, in the technical room located in a building attached to the main one, one of the transformers has broken down, generating smoke and small electrical discharges, which caused the fire alarm at the ALBA Synchrotron to go off.
The security team has notified ALBA's on-call staff as well as the firefighters. The transformer has been disconnected, without the need for the fire department to intervene.
There has not been any personal or material damage of any kind, other than the damaged transformer.
Currently, ALBA teams have already replaced the transformer and are working to restore service in the next few hours.
