User Funding

 

User Funding for Academic Research is subject to budget availability for 2014.

ELEGIBILITY

For each academic peer-reviewed experiment:

  • ALBA may fund the trip of up to 3 users from Spanish institutions per experiment.
  • For XALOC and MISTRAL beamlines, ALBA may fund up to 3 users within BioStruct-X transnational program (1). Please send the Biostruct-X reference of the approved project to ALBA User Office.
  • For MSPD, NCD, CLAESS, CIRCE, BOREAS beamlines, ALBA may fund 1 user within the Calipso program (1). ALBA User Office automatically grants this funding when applicable and users are not expected to request Calipso funding.

(1) To be eligible for BioStruct-X funding and Calipso funding, experiment proposals must meet the following conditions:

  • The main proposer should work in a non Spanish European home institution.
  • Most users (half+1) coming to the experiment should work in non Spanish European home institutions.

FUNDED EXPENSES

Travel

  • Travel tickets from user’s home city to Barcelona airport or train station.
  • Transfers from Barcelona airport or train station to ALBA.
  • Public transportation tickets for Barcelona metropolitan area.
  • Tolls and mileage for one personal car per group from home city to ALBA (0.19€/km, BOE).
  • One car rent per group, maximum 300€, plus tolls and petrol.
  • Two taxi rides per group per day with beam time from ALBA to Vila Universitaria/ Hotel Campus.
  • Shuttles between ALBA and Vila Universitaria/Hotel Campus.


Accommodation

  • Accommodation at Vila Universitaria or Hotel Campus during the days of the experiment plus one day before and after.


Meals during days of the experiment

  • Working days: lunches at ALBA canteen.
  • Week-ends and public holidays: lunches at Hotel Campus.
  • ALL DAYS: dinner at Hotel campus or take-away dinner from Hotel Campus if they prefer to stay in ALBA facility for their experiment.

You will be requested to sign a register after your meal.

ALBA will ONLY fund lunches and dinners during officially granted beamtime plus the day before first shift and the day after last shift.

ALBA will not reimburse tickets from other restaurant or cafeteria.

REIMBURSEMENT

Funded users may send:

  • A mileage justification, such as a Google map with the itinerary, along with toll tickets.
  • Tickets for public transportation in the metropolitan area.
  • Taxi receipts.

Users shall sign all tickets and receipts and will be reimbursed within two months after the experiment and receipts are returned to ALBA.

Only once you have received your invitation letter from ALBA User Office confirming your experiment dates, you may book your travel tickets, transfers from Barcelona airport or train station to ALBA, shuttles and accommodation through our travel agency and guest house. Those expenses will be directly invoiced to ALBA.
