The Industrial Office team is a multidisciplinary group of scientists with wide experience in synchrotron facilities. All of them are specialised in different scientific fields.

Alejandro Sánchez

Director of the Industrial Liaison Office. PhD in Physics, He has more than 14 years in the semiconductor industry in the United States and Europe, and more than 4 years in project management for European Micro-Nano-Systems initiatives at the European Commission in Brussels. In 2006, he joined the coordination team for the construction of the ALBA Synchrotron and subsequently took on the responsibility of establishing the Industry Relations Office. managing technology transfer, and international relations.

Núria Valls

Núria Valls

Industrial Liaison Scientist. PhD in Chemistry, she has a scientific background in structural biology and worked for over 10 years in the pharmaceutical private sector, always being synchrotron diffraction one of the main techniques for carrying out her projects. She joined the Industrial Liaison Office of ALBA in 2014 where she acts as a bridge between ALBA and private companies, promoting and managing industrial projects using synchrotron light especially in the pharmaceutical, health, and cosmetics sectors. Additionally, she manages specific European Union programs aimed at providing funded access to European synchrotron light sources to small and medium-sized enterprises.

Marta Ávila

Marta Ávila

Industrial Liaison Scientist. PhD in Analytical Chemistry, expertise on the synthesis and characterization of composite materials, using advanced analytical techniques such as synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). In 2015, she joined the Industry Liaison Office of the ALBA Synchrotron, serving as the point of contact for companies in the chemical sector, materials manufacturing, nanotechnology, energy, and consumer products.

Bárbara Calisto

Bárbara Calisto

Industrial Liaison Scientist. PhD in Biological Sciences. Industry and International Relationships Agent. She spent part of her research career working in projects related with the determination of 3D structures of proteins from pathogens by Macromolecular Crystallography (MX) and other Structural Biology methods in synchrotrons. She joined the Industrial Liaison Office of ALBA in 2020 where she manages the access of industrial users to the ALBA synchrotron and supports the activities of the League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources (LEAPS).

Virginia Boix

Virginia Boix

Industrial Liaison Scientist. PhD in Physics with more than 5 years of experience on materials characterization using synchrotron basedsynchrotron-based techniques (XPS, APXPS, and PEEM). She promotes the access of industrial users to the synchrotron and manages the industrial access routes of the ReMade@ARI project, which provides financing options to access advanced research infrastructures in Europe tailored for industry.
