There are two main access options:

  • Academic access: a proposal must be sent during Call for proposals. The received proposals are reviewed by an external scientific committee and the top ranked proposals are awarded beamtime. The academic access is free-of-charge and the research outcomes obtained at ALBA Synchrotron through academic access must be published. More information can be found on Academic access.
  • Proprietary or industrial access: The proprietary access is intended for those researchers who require faster access entry and/or confidentiality. Access is usually provided within one month once the experiment is defined and agreed with the client. No Peer review process takes place and the results belong to the client without the need of publishing them.
      • Single service: it is mainly used when a specific need or challenge can be solved using a specific technique. In some specific cases this service can include sample preparation, data analysis, data treatment and the preparation of a report.
      • Long term collaboration: This type of access typically spans several years, allowing the client researchers to conduct numerous experiments and investigations using the various techniques available at ALBA to solve complex or long-term challenges.
      • Joint service with partners: this access is used when the additional expertise or skills of an external research centre or company is required to address complex scientific questions.
      • Access through funded EU industry projects: this access offers European industries the opportunity to use the advanced techniques of the ALBA Synchrotron completely funded or at a very low cost. You can find more information here.

Please, contact the ALBA Industrial Liaison team to get advice on the best access mode for your specific challenge at industrialoffice@cells.es

Once researcher(s) have obtained access (through academic or proprietary access), there are several measurement modes to accommodate the different user requirements.

    • On-site measurements: the users come to ALBA to perform the measurements with the support of our local contact.
    • Mail-in access: The users ship the samples to ALBA and our scientists are responsible for their analysis. In some specific cases, sample preparation can also be done.
    • Remote access: for some beamlines, users can ship the samples to ALBA and perform the measurements remotely connecting through their own computer. At this moment it is only available at XALOC beamline. More information on how to access remotely.
