The end-station is based on two in-house-developed positioning tables that support the detector and the diffractometer. The whole End-Station is enclosed on a chamber, to allow experiment under controlled atmosphere and Helium.

Beam conditioning elements

These are the elements immediately in front of the sample, they consist of 12-foil attenuators, x-ray position monitors, slits, fast shutter, and a diamond window.

  • Position monitors: two 4-quadrant CVD diamond (DECTRIS)
  • 12-foil attenuators (ESRF type)
  • Fast shutter (FPS400 CEDRAT)
  • Slits (JJ-Xray ESRF type)

Diffractometer (In House)

Where the sample is to be rotated for data collection. The system includes a high accuracy goniometer and an on-axis viewing system.

  • High accuracy goniometer (omega axis), compatible with air and Helium.
  • 30 nm sphere of confusion with active correction.
  • Dual On-axis viewing system:
    • A digital camera (commercial solution, Bzoom) allows instantaneous zooming of the sample up to 30.2X magnification (0.14 x 0.11 mm FOV, 1.7 μm resolution).
    • A high resolution in-house camera with 20X magnification (0.88 x 0.66 mm FOV, 0.7 μm resolution).
  • Beam stop with collimator, compatible with serial chips (150/100 μm cleaning apperture, in-house design)

Automatic Sample Changer (ISARA2 - IRELEC)

The 6-axis robotic arm is used to manipulate both cryo- and room-temperature samples. The Dewar is able to store a maximum of 464 cryosamples.

  • Robotic arm to mount/unmount SPINE pins
  • The liquid N2 Dewar is able to store up to 464 samples
  • Puck barcode reading
  • Supports Unipuck standard

EIGER2 XE 9M (550 Hz) - Dectris

The main data collection detector is capable of recording up to 100 images per second.

  • 233.1 mm x 244.65 mm active area, 9 Mpixels
  • 4.3 Billion counts maximum dynamic range (32 bits)
  • Virtually noise free
  • Pixel size (W x H): 75 μm x 75 μm
  • Sensor thickness: 450 μm (Silicon)
  • Maximum frame rate: 550 Hz
