Abstract

A 3rd generation light source project was proposed by collaboration of 7 national universities in 2011 just after a big earthquake attacked at Tohoku area, Japan. The project SLiT-J, (Synchrotron Light in Tohoku, Japan) has been promoted by gathering demands of Japanese synchrotron radiation research community, and developed to a national project. Accelerator system for 3 GeV light source is now mostly designed conceptually. We have chosen 4-bend structure for a unit cell lattice to achieve lower emittance below 1 nmrad. The number of cells is 16 and ring circumference is about 350 m. Number of available beam lines are 26 including short straight sections for multi-pole wigglers. Horizontal emittance is expected to be around 0.9 nmrad or below, and the maximum brilliance may exceed 1021 at 1 - 3 keV region with a ring current at 400 mA. A full energy injector linac equipped a thermionic RF gun and c-band accelerating structures to produce sufficiently low emittance beam for efficient beam injection. Though the SLiT-J project has not completely approved yet, presently it is, however, very much promising. Detail of the project and accelerator system will be presented. At the beginning of the talk recent research activities using electron accelerators in Research Center for Electron Photon Science, Tohoku University will briefly introduced.
