Please have a look at the following documentation as a help for the preparation of your experiment proposals and preparing for your experiments at BOREAS beamline.
USER INFORMATION FOR BOREAS INSTRUMENTATION
XMCD MAGNET ENDSTATION (HECTOR)
- The picture below shows the available sample holders at the xcmd endstation. You have a detailed word document with examples of different sample mounting here. CAD models in STEP file format at available as well: standard sample holder(1), STM-platen sample holder(3), STMlow nut sample holder with contacts(4). Related sample holders with holes for transmission experiments are also available.
The standard STM-plate used at BOREAS is shown here. A CAD model in STEP file format is also available here. SPEC or OMICRON STM plate standards normally fit also well in our endstation adapted sample holder and e-beam heating stage, but if you plan to use your own STM plates we suggest you to crosscheck with us.
X-RAY SCATTERING ENDSTATION (MaReS)
The picture below shows the available sample holders at the scattering endstation (CAD file in links): standard reflectivity sample holder(#1), enlarged reflectivity sample holder for more samples(#2), STM plate adapter sample holder(#3), transmission sample holder for holography or very weak scattering samples with custom mounting plates, with enlarged blocking of parasitic scattering for one or two samples(#4), multisample transmission sample holders (#5).
Off-line surface preparation, sample transfer, UHV suit case and STM chamber
- Find further information on the sample transfer system here.
- Find further information on the UHV suitcase system here.
- A well-equipped off-line surface preparation chamber ("surface satellite chamber") is now available to all users. It includes e-beam heating, ion sputtering, thickness monitoring, can mount ebeam and organic evaporators on a quick-exchange scheme, and has a large view LEED-Auger system. Samples on the surface satellite chamber have to be mounted on STM plates and can be in-situ transferred to XMCD and XRMS endstations.
- Surface science beamline users are also offered now the possibility to use a UHV STM&AFM system (RHK PanScan) for advanced sample characterization, on the basis of agreed scientific collaboration (contact M.Valvidares & P.Gargiani for discussion in advance to proposal submission and to ensure required sample preparation is feasible and allowed). This system has been co-funded by MINECO Programa "Retos de la Sociedad" project #FIS2013-45469-C4-3-R (AEI/Feder, EU) and ALBA.
