We are pleased to announce the Meeting on Common Topics in the Study of HTS-coated beam screens for the FCC which will be held at ALBA Synchrotron on November 30th, 2018.
The ongoing studies for the FCC have shown that using a Cu coating as beam screen for the vacuum chamber might not be sufficient to achieve a stable circulating beam. Therefore CERN is searching for other solutions. One among them is the substitution of Cu for a High Temperature Conductor. Since 2018 two Consortia coordinated by CERN are investigating this alternative. ALBA, together with ICMAB, UPC and IFAE form one of the Consortium and is using YBCO as based material, while the other Consortium formed by researchers from Italy and Austria are investigating Tl based materials.
