Due to its environmental properties, economic potential and safety features, nuclear fusion of light nuclei emerges as one of the few possible options for supplying long-term energy in a massive and manageable way to the growing world population. The spectacular progress made by the scientific and technological community in the understanding of the underlying physics in the fusion processes and in the technology to implement them, has driven the design of a road map in Europe whose objective is the construction of a prototype nuclear power plant called DEMO, as a previous step to the commercialization of this energy source.

In this seminar, after a brief introduction on the world energy situation, the situation, progress and challenges of the two main pillars on which the European road map is based will be presented: the ITER Project that is being built in the south of France in a unprecedented collaboration between China, Korea, the United States, Europe, India, Japan and Russia and the neutron source IFMIF-DONES that is intended to be installed in Granada
