What is your job at ALBA?
Infrastructures Section Head. Checking and monitoring the ongoing projects of the Infrastructures Section. Currently, for example, with the ALBA II project, we have to monitor projects like the creation of new buildings, new laboratories, legal management, etc.
I’m also dedicated to preventive and corrective maintenance of the whole system feeding the accelerator: water refrigeration, electronics, compressed air, etc.
What do you enjoy the most about your job at ALBA?
The dynamic growth of new projects. There’s always constant movement which is encouraging and doesn’t let you lose work motivation.
The fact that you need to go deep in your engineering knowledge to remember what you studied in college in order to be able to resolve new incidents, is also very motivating.
On the other hand, projects at ALBA are long-term ones. So it is important to properly define the tasks to be done. This is sometimes the hardest thing to do. It’s easy to think you are on time since you see the deadline far away, but you can’t relax.
What was your perception of ALBA before working for it?
I remember visiting ALBA, before working here, and thinking “wow, this is the dream of every engineer”. It’s the extrapolation of college, putting into practice what you study. All that knowledge together, you have it here, inside ALBA. You can cover any topic.
Do you collaborate with other research institutions?
Yes, we share knowledge. Which is something that fascinates me. When you work for a private company, there are lots of reservations about sharing knowledge. But here we share knowledge with other synchrotrons. They’ve asked us for help and we have asked for help, it’s really gratifying.
Which are your hobbies?
I really like sports: I’ve practiced padel, running, participated in races, played tennis… Now I’m into CrossFit. I enjoy being in movement.
I also love cooking from a combination of nutrients point of view, rather than just combining food. But still getting something tasty.
