HERCULES EUROPEAN SCHOOL 2023'S EDITION FINISHES WITH A GREAT SUCCESS

From 20th to 24th March the ALBA Synchrotron hosted the European course HERCULES, where 20 young researchers from all over the world learned about synchrotron light science with the help of ALBA scientists. During the week, ALBA staff provided training for these students in a practical way about cutting-edge techniques with synchrotron radiation, with applications in fields such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Hard & Soft Condensed Matter.

RESEARCHERS OBSERVE TOPOLOGICAL MAGNETIC MONOPOLES AND DIPOLES IN A FERROMAGNETIC MATERIAL

A scientific collaboration between scientists from Universidad de Oviedo and ALBA Synchrotron has achieved a detailed description of magnetic singularities and their interactions from the analysis of data acquired at MISTRAL beamline with the magnetic vector tomography technique. The results of the study, fully experimental not involving simulations and published at Communications Physics, provide a solid ground to understand fundamental knowledge about these singularities, what may have future applications on the design of magnetic devices.

RESEARCHERS DISCOVER A NEW MECHANISM ENABLING ULTRAFAST MEMORY ARCHITECTURES

A study published in Advanced Functional Materials and led by researchers in the United Kingdom, in collaboration with BOREAS beamline at the ALBA Synchrotron, has proved the possibility to store magnetic information in picosecond timescales at a fullerene - oxide interface by using the photocurrent generated in the molecular layer. This holds great potential for the development of eco-friendly, ultra-fast hybrid information memories and magneto-optic sensors working via light or electrical irradiation at high frequencies.

CIÈNCIA EN COLORS CLOSES ITS 2ND EDITION WITH A CONSOLIDATED SUCCESS

More than 280 high school students from 12 to 14 years old have participated in the second edition of 'Ciència en Colors'. The educational project included a total of 20 workshops in 6 schools in Barcelona, Cerdanyola and Barberà del Vallès. Students have the opportunity to meet some of the people working at ALBA and think about the importance of diversity in science.
