When
SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East) is a "third-generation" synchrotron light source that was officially opened in Allan (Jordan) on 16th May 2017. It is the Middle East's first major international research centre.
SESAME is a cooperative venture by scientists and governments of the region set up on the model of CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). It was developed under the auspices of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) following the formal approval given for this by the Organization's Executive Board (164th session, May 2002).
The Council is the governing body of SESAME and consists of Members and Observers, who may be other states and international organisations. Spain is one of the Observer states.
The 36th meeting of the SESAME Council will be held on the 6th and 7th of June 2020. It was meant to be hosted by ALBA at Barcelona. Due to the current situation related to COVID-19 pandemia, it will be held online.
