Yes, ALBA's building is constantly monitored by the Radiation Protection Service to ensure that radiation levels are below the limit to ensure full safety for all the visitors and users who come to our facility.
ALBA Synchrotron
Safety is a responsibility of the entire organization and it is structurally integrated in all the facility.
The Health & Safety office, depending directly on the Director, is organized in two teams: Occupational Health & Safety and the Radiation Protection Service.

Occupational Health & Safety
The activities to avoid or reduce general risks at ALBA are very varied, according to the present type of risks: falls, falling objects, hits and cuts, particle projection, electric, biological, chemicals, laser, cryogenics, static magnetic field, postural fatigue and explosion, etc. Since 2023, CELLS has an own Prevention Service, in charge of the safety and hygiene at workplace, the experiments evaluation, the coordination of external contractors at ALBA, the update and maintenance of the Emergency and Prevention Plans and staff and external collaborators trainning. Besides, it counts with an external service to deal with ergonomics, psychosocial risks and health surveillance.

Radiation Protection Service
Responsible of the radiation hazard safety at the ALBA Synchrotron, including the development of policies and working procedures to prevent any radiological risk, being in contact wit the Spanish Nueclear Council (CSN) and applying the current safety regulations, designing and maintaing the access to radiological zones, the radiation shielding elements, improving the Personal Safety System, managing personal and area dosimetry and training ALBA staff and external contractors.
