ALBA Synchrotron
The ALBA Synchrotron has released the last video about experiments performed in the facility. In this occasion, synchrotron light has made possible to obtain the first 3D map of the interior of cells affected by the virus of hepatitis C. This project received the support of the FECYT and Obra Social "la Caixa".
In the video series launched by the ALBA Synchrotron in 2016, experiments from different scientific disciplines has been showed. Users coming from universities and research centres have explained how they have taken advantage of the synchrotron light and how can benefit for their research.
The last of these videos is focused on health once more. Researchers at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología of the CSIC (CNB-CSIC) and the ALBA Synchrotron have looked inside an infected cell in three dimensions and seen how the virus greatly distorts some of its structures. In addition, the authors observed that some of the antiviral drugs most commonly used to treat hepatitis C can reverse these structural alterations.

These videos are part of the project FCT-15-9828 "Bringing science to society – Outreach science program of the ALBA Synchrotron", funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) - Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the Foundation Obra Social "la Caixa".
