ALBA Synchrotron
Registration for Misión ALBA opens today. This educational project will begin next academic year and a maximum of 250 primary school groups of 5th and 6th grade from all over Spain will be able to participate.
Cerdanyola del Vallès, 28 June 2018.
One mission, four phases: matter, force, energy and light. ALBA is looking for boys and girls to accept the challenge of dealing with synchrotron science! From now on, their teachers can register their groups at www.misionalba.es. The educational project is launched for the first time during the academic year 2018-2019 and up to 5,000 students can participate, totally free. The contents of the Misión ALBA respond to the demands of the official curriculum for this educational stage, including educational guidelines adapted for each autonomous region.
Misión ALBA hosts four virtual laboratories. Under the motto of making visible the invisible, in each phase scientists and engineers of the ALBA Synchrotron challenge the participating teams to a scientific "mystery" that they will investigate doing experiments in the classroom. Following the instructions of the ALBA Synchrotron experts, the students must find out the scientific answer and, if they succeed, they will be able to proceed to the next phase until they reach the final goal of the "mission".
Teams from all over Spain will be working at the same time, and in the end, like in every mission, it will have its reward. Videoconferences with the scientists who have encouraged them to experiment or promotional material of the Misión will be some of the prizes that will be raffled among the teams that have overcomed each phase.
The main objectives of the project are to promote scientific vocations by giving a close, positive and motivating vision of science and the STEM professions (science, technology, engineering and mathematics); to offer teachers resources to work science by projects and in an experiential way; and to show among the educational community the scientific work of the ALBA Synchrotron. ALBA offers a perfect tool to cover the contents of the primary scientific curriculum in a practical and experiential way.
Led by the ALBA Synchrotron, Mision ALBA has de support of Obra Social "La Caixa" and has been produced in collaboration with Eduxarxa.
