Next week, Barcelona is becoming the capital of particle accelerators science and technology with the celebration of the conferences IBIC and MEDSI. Both conferences, organised by the ALBA Synchrotron, are gathering more than 500 engineers and physicists from worldwide research centers.

From 11 to 16 September 2016 the ALBA Synchrotron is hosting IBIC (International Beam Instrumentation Conferece) and MEDSI (Mechanical Engineering Design of Synchrotron Radiation Equipment and Instrumentation) conferences. 531 researchers and engineers are participating, coming from all over the world, including the large international facilities, such as CERN (Switzerland), J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex) or Argonne National Laboratory (USA), among many others.

During the whole week, delegates will present the latest developments in the detection and measurement systems for particle accelerators, as well as the advances in the mechanical design of instrumentation and components, all of them key issues for achieving a good performance in the experiments and, also, of interest for technology transfer. Both events are scientifically renowned, being the fifth edition of IBIC and the ninth of MEDSI.

IBIC 2016 will be held at the World Trade Center of Barcelona, while MEDSI 2016 is taking place at the CosmoCaixa science museum, thanks to the collaboration of La Caixa Foundation. On Thursday 15 September all the delegates will participate in a joint visit to the ALBA Synchrotron.

The industrial participation at both events is very high, counting with the presence of more than 60 industrial exhibitors from companies specialised in scientific equipment and cutting-edge technology in areas such as cryogenics, vacuum, etc.
