On July 4th, the SEQC organized a visit for partners to the ALBA Synchrotron. The

Spanish Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SEQC) is a non-profit scientific society that gathers a broad and multidisciplinary group of professionals working in the field of Cosmetics and Fragance.

In the first part of the visit, a presentation was given about the applications and possibilities offered by the synchrotron light in the cosmetic sector. Some studies that can be done in ALBA in this field are:

  • Structural studies of the skin: detection of structural changes of the skin when it is damaged due to a disease, for example. Or how the skin can be structurally repaired when a cosmetic product is applied.

  • Studies of compound penetration in the skin, as well as the biochemical effects that the compound produces on the skin.

  • Structural characterization of the final cosmetic product.

This scientific facility is open to the academic and industrial sector to perfom research studies beyond conventional techniques. Its members explained to the attendees the different access ways to the ALBA Synchroton.

After the presentation, the partners had the opportunity to visit through a guided tour the Experimental Hall of ALBA, which allowed them to see the different laboratories and beamlines in action and explore the equipment of the installation. The visit, which lasted approximately one hour and 30 minutes, ended with a coffee break in the grounds of the Synchrotron.
