ALBA Synchrotron
The ALBA Synchrotron has been honoured to welcome the director for International Cooperation of the Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission.
Led by Caterina Biscari, director of the ALBA Synchrotron, a delegation including representatives from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Union for the Mediterranean and the Spanish Ministry for Economy, Industry and Competitiveness have had the chance to gain an appreciation for the accelerators' complex as well as its eight operational beamlines.
Cristina Russo has been invited by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in collaboration with the Union for the Mediterranean and as part of the 5TOI_4EWAS project that will contribute to building bridges between innovation and technology, as well as opening new markets in the food, energy and water management sectors in the South of the Mediterranean.
Before visiting the ALBA Synchrotron, Cristina Russo has given a speech entitled "European International Cooperation, Open to the World" at the UAB. The event has also included the participation of Màrius Martínez, Vice Rector for International Relations; Delphine Borione, Deputy Secretary General of Union for the Mediterranean; David Rovirosa, from ACCIÓ, Generalitat de Catalunya; Francesc Subirada, General Director of Research of the Government of Catalonia; and M. Teresa Díez Iturrioz, from the Spanish Ministry for Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. The event has been coordinated by Professor Manuel Valiente from the UAB and regular user of the ALBA Synchrotron and other synchrotron facilities.
Since July 2013, Cristina Russo is responsible for promoting research and innovation cooperation with international partners with the aim of strengthening the scientific excellence and attractiveness of the EU, fostering its industrial competitiveness, tackling global societal challenges and supporting EU's external policies, including trade, development and enlargement.
