The 8th Max Perutz Prize of the European Crystallographic Association (ECA) has been awarded to John R. Helliwell, former chairman of the ALBA Scientific Advisory Committee, in recognition of his long and successful professional career.

 

 

John R. Helliwell - Emeritus Professor of Structural Chemistry at the University of Manchester (UK) - has been awarded with this prize for "his long, generous and fruitful dedication to developing all aspects of the use of synchrotron radiation for crystallography and for his boosting support to global development of synchrotron and neutron facilities". He has been the chairman of the ALBA Scientific Advisory Committee till the end of 2014.

The Max Perutz Prize is awarded twice in a three-year cycle in recognition of meritorious achievements in any branch of crystallography by a crystallographer having a clear affiliation with the European Crystallographic Associaction (ECA) region and being an individual member of the ECA.

John R. Helliwell will receive the Max Perutz award at the 29th European Crystallographic Meeting to be held in Rovinj (Croatia) on 23-28 August 2015.
