. Klaus Attenkofer, PhD in Experimental Physics by the University of Hamburg, has a wide expertise in the field of synchrotron light sources. He worked as a beamline scientist in Argonne National Laboratory (Chicago, USA) for more than 10 years. Before joining ALBA, he has been the programme manager of hard X-ray spectroscopy in Brookhaven National Laboratory NSLS-II (New York, USA). Most of his career has been focused in materials science, chemistry and environment, with a strong emphasis on energy sciences, developing new detection and data acquisition systems and implementing different sample environments.

Klaus highlights "his enthusiasm in taking part of the ALBA team, a facility with huge growing possibilities and outstanding research capabilities".

He is succeeding Miguel Ángel García Aranda, who has been managing the Experiments division since late 2012. The ALBA director, Caterina Biscari, expresses a deep gratitude for his excellent performance during these years, allowing the facility to become an internationally recognised research infrastructure.
