They have signed a strategic collaboration agreement to strengthen cooperation between two of Spain's leading large research infrastructures. The agreement establishes a stable framework for collaboration aimed at fostering innovation, advanced engineering and knowledge transfer in high-impact technological fields.
The agreement was signed by Moisés Weber Suárez, Director of the IFMIF-DONES Spain Consortium, and Caterina Biscari, Director of the ALBA Synchrotron. Both highlighted the importance of creating synergies between world-class research infrastructures to accelerate scientific and technological development.
The collaboration will focus on several key areas, including radiation licensing, radiation protection and safety, the development of advanced control systems, the engineering of complex infrastructures, and particle accelerator technologies. These are strategic areas in which both organisations face common challenges, making cooperation an effective way to optimise capabilities and exchange expertise.
Another major objective of the agreement is to promote scientific and technical talent. Both institutions will work together to train highly qualified professionals through joint training programmes, staff exchanges and collaborative educational initiatives that encourage interdisciplinary expertise.
The partnership will also strengthen the outreach activities of both infrastructures by promoting joint science communication initiatives, organising events and coordinating participation in competitive R&D&I projects.
Through this agreement, the ALBA Synchrotron and the IFMIF-DONES Spain Consortium reinforce their role as key pillars of Spain's scientific and technological ecosystem, working together to address future challenges in strategic fields such as fusion energy, materials science and advanced technologies.
