The laboratory is operated as a clean room with control of particles, temperature, pressure, and humidity and is built in the ALBA experimental hall to profit from the main slab isolation of vibrations. It is distributed into three areas, two dedicated for the clean room and another one for the operation of the laboratory.

The Nanomotion Lab combines metrology, prototype assembly, testing and research in precision mechatronics, developing and testing new technologies, and synchronization solutions in close collaboration with Engineering, Electronics, and Controls groups.

Recent work includes the measurement of bending mirrors through viewports - which allows characterizing the position, pitch and curvature of the mirror- and testing controllers and acquisition devices from different manufacturers to come up with an array of solutions for fast communication and improved synchronization between components.
