ALBA Synchrotron

The High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) in China and the ALBA Synchrotron have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster a far-reaching partnership between their flagship accelerator facilities.
The agreement has been formalized on 26th July 2025 in Beijing, in the presence of Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat, Caterina Biscari, Director of ALBA, and Yuhui Dong, Deputy Director of HEPS, officiated the signing ceremony.
The collaboration among facilities will enable personnel exchange to build scientific and technical expertise across institutions, the organization of joint symposia and workshops to foster dialogue and shared methodologies in synchrotron science and accelerator technology and jointly conducted experiments in advanced synchrotron research.
HEPS is China’s first fourth-generation, high-energy synchrotron. Its 1.36 km storage ring accelerates electrons to 6 GeV with ultra‑low emittance, and it is now in its final joint‑commissioning phase ahead of full operation planned by the end of 2025.
This strategic collaboration between HEPS and ALBA symbolizes a key step forward in bridging synchrotron science across continents, enhancing knowledge exchange, and joint research capacity in the global synchrotron community.
