The city of Gavà celebrated yesterday a ceremony to recognise the contribution of Pep Campmany to the culture and public service to his city. Pep, member of the ALBA Accelerators division since its origins, passed away last 13th December 2024 at the age of 58.

The city of Gavà has posthumously bestowed its highest civic honour, the title of "Distinguished Son of the City," upon Pep Campmany in a ceremony held last 3rd July at 18:00h at the Gavà City Council Plenary Hall.

The event held in his honour was profoundly emotional, bringing together colleagues, friends, and family in a tribute that not only celebrated his legacy but also reaffirmed the importance of keeping his ideas and passion for public knowledge alive.

Born in Gavà in 1966, he dedicated his life to advancing scientific research and enriching local cultural heritage. He was one of the first persons working at the ALBA Synchrotron project, where he played a pivotal role in the development of the faclity. His work included leading the Insertion Devices & Magnets Section and establishing the Magnetic Measurements Laboratory, contributing significantly to the facility's scientific capabilities. He also was one of the founders of the Workers' Committee, and did also serve as its President.

Beyond his scientific achievements, Pep was deeply involved in preserving and promoting the history of Gavà and the Baix Llobregat region. He founded the Centre d’Estudis de Gavà and authored numerous books and articles on local history.

He also served his community as a councillor and spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya in Gavà.

His colleagues will always remember him with deep admiration and affection.
