The director of the ALBA Synchrotron was recognised with the Narcís Monturiol Medal for her achievements contributing to scientific and technological progress in Catalonia.

Chaired by Quim Torra, President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Àngels Chacón, Minister of Business and Knowledge, and Francesc Xavier Grau, Secretary for Universities and Research, Caterina Biscari was awarded the Narcís Monturiol Medal, along with 18 other distinguished individuals and a institution, in a ceremony held at the Palau de la Generalitat on February 19th at 6:30 pm.

These awards, launched by the Generalitat in 1982, recognise the scientific and technological merit of individuals and entities that have made an outstanding contribution to the development of science and technology in Catalonia. In previous editions, other scientists related to the ALBA Synchrotron were also awarded: Ramon Pascual (honorary president of ALBA), Joan Bordas (former director) and Dieter Einfeld (former head of the Accelerators division). According to Caterina Biscari, "this award highlights the importance of the ALBA Synchrotron in the scientific and technological landscape in Catalonia".

Caterina Biscari holds a PhD in Physics from the Università degli Studi di Napoli. She has developed her scientific career in the field of particle accelerators at CERN and the Laboratorio Nazionali di Frascati of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare. She is the director of the ALBA Synchrotron since 2012, and manages the start and consolidation of the facility operation as well as the development with new beamlines.
